The high rate of maternal and child deaths revealed that Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world for a woman to be pregnant. The country contributed only 2% of the world population, but accounts for 14% of the global maternal mortality.

The Federal Government of Nigeria on the 8th of April, 2019 declared maternal and child health as public health concern leading to the establishment of National Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention Center called (NEMCHIC).

Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency today 4th November, 2019 declared these menace as a public health concern and also established the State Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention Center (SEMHIC) and inaugurated the team with the goal β€˜β€™to reduce the preventable maternal and child death by 50% in 2021.’’
